Class 6 Assignment 9

Here Forney and Gilbert discuss how human identity has changed over time. The pre-modern human identity was based mostly of social class and particular job within that social class. The modern human identity was based off of ideas brought about by Freud dealing with the ideas of nature vs. nurture. Human identity in the post-modern era that we are living in now is becoming more and more influenced by new technologies which leads to having several different "selves."

Now that immersive education and virtual worlds are becoming more and more popular, not only do people have different selves on social media sites, they also have different avatars that they can create. This avatar is often a representation of what that person really wants to look like or allows this person to do things that they might not be able to do in real life.

This chart shows all the different possibilities that virtual worlds open up as far as human identities are concerned. Clearly, the virtual worlds makes human identity much more complex than it has been seen in the past.
